Tonight I've made poetry of a broken face,
red snakes that slither
from the corner of lips
that ached for you,
now aching against the crooked smile of pavement.
My knuckles have painted the eye
of your indiscretion
the color of a winter sunset.
I think parts of me have crumbled
and died.
Detached and furious now
at nothing, I grope my pockets
for the crushed pack of cigarettes,
I lick my teeth,
I exhale.
I want to show you what I've done,
to show God, my palms open to the sky.
Look what you made me do.
My fingers are all yellow from smoking
and my hand is torn
from the tear shaped tooth.

A spider inches across the bar,
waiting to die.
Plastic cups of beer
and my stomach turns with every swallow.
It's a thursday night,
blanket of blue smoke in the air.
The band pulls into the breakdown
and the bodies fly at each other
like cigarette butts flicked in the rain.
I see you, Romeo, backed into the corner
your hands Chris Columbus up her dress
and I shoot her a glance that says
get in the fucking car.
We step outside like it's school.
Parade in the parking lot
and you puke on your jeans
but I don't stop.
My hands have a mind of their own.
The undertow,
pulling them back
to me.
Behind my eyes,
the tide brings them back.
And revealed there is something
breathtaking,
your face,
white summer clouds
in a swollen blue sky.
Day turns to night.
The purple swirls
and blisters
and it is beautiful.

and sometimes I wish
you'd shoot that silver bullet
or slip
your ice-pick
tongue
between my ribs
where it belongs.  
I'm always waiting by the phone.
You call, my heart
the sound of a car crash
in the rain.
I'm endlessly
coveting,
and letting it grow within.
